Support HB 509 to protect Georgians with pre-existing conditions

Introduced by Representative Houston Gaines (R-117) and co-sponsored by Representative Sharon Cooper (R-43) on February 17, 2021, House Bill 509 aims to preserve protections of preexisting medical conditions for Georgians and ensure they are provided healthcare opportunities without limitation or exclusion. The bill ensures that if the Affordable Care Act is struck down by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional that Georgia’s law would protect pre-existing conditions. Specifically, HB 509 would require insurers to make available at least one “reasonably priced” comprehensive major medical plan to individuals without limitation or exclusion to pre-existing medical conditions. The bill crossed over on February 26, 2021.
