EXCITING executive staff changes at Georgia Watch

ATLANTA – July 15th, Former Public Service Commissioner Angela Speir Phelps became executive director of Georgia Watch, the state’s leading consumer advocacy organization. Policy manager Danny Orrock moves into the organization’s deputy director position…

In January of this year, after declining to run a second time for her seat on the PSC, Speir joined Georgia Watch as deputy director and senior director of the Consumer Energy Program.

“I ran for office because I care about people and I came to Georgia Watch because this is an organization that positively impacts the lives of Georgians by standing up for what’s right.” Speir said. “With Clark Howard and founder Allie Wall on our board, Danny Orrock as deputy director and a knowledgeable, dedicated staff, we are well positioned to accomplish new heights of success.”

Speir has received countless awards recognizing her devotion to public service: Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Hero of Open Government Award, WSB’s “Political Role Model”, 2009 Common Cause Democracy Award, Notable Georgian by Georgia Trend and the Community Service Award from the Council on Aging.

Former Policy Manager Danny Orrock will assume the role as deputy director for the organization. Orrock has been with Georgia Watch for six years and will continue playing an incisive role in policy development. With years of lobbying experience, Orrock will act as the organization’s voice at the Capitol, educating legislators and advocating for pro-consumer legislation.

“Since 2002, Georgia Watch has built a reputation as an organization that is not afraid to stand up to powerful interests on behalf of the little guy,” Orrock said. “Angela and I are committed to continuing to educate and advocate for substantive change that benefits consumers and our state’s economy.”

Wall, former executive director of Georgia Watch, is now serving as senior vice president of the Georgia Conservancy.

“Angela is one of the most respected leaders in our state and exemplified integrity and dedication all Georgians while serving on the PSC,” Georgia Watch Founder Allison Wall said. “And Danny and I have worked side by side for years. Their commitment to fairness and accountability shared – Georgia Watch will flourish under their leadership.”
