Fayette Senior Services’ (FSS) Case Manager Iris Harris was presented with the Georgia Watch 2019 Consumer Champion Award this month. This award recognizes her work to protect and empower consumers in Georgia. Other recipients among her include Representative Sharon Cooper, consumer investigative reporter Harry Samler, and Dr. Janelle Williams.
Iris was presented with the Consumer Champion for Community Education award. Georgia Cares recognized her “for her relentless and steadfast dedication to educating seniors about consumer issues, including medical debt and energy bills. Ms. Harris not only provides direct assistance to seniors but also connects them with resources that enable them to protect themselves and remain independent and active,” they shared.
“Georgia Watch is proud to recognize these Consumer Champions for standing up for the interests of Georgia consumers,” said Georgia Watch Executive Director Liz Coyle. “We owe them each a debt of gratitude for the energy they put forth every day to keep Georgians safe, healthy and financially secure.”
Founded in 2002, Georgia Watch is a statewide, non-profit consumer advocacy organization working to inform and protect Georgia consumers on matters that significantly impact their quality of life. FSS is a proud partner with Georgia Watch. Iris regularly refers to their Guide for Medical Bills and Debt, among other resources, to help clients resolve outstanding medical bills and lower their debt. In addition, FSS has hosted Georgia Watch in a handful of educational programs to lower utility bills, lower medical debt, and weatherize homes.
Iris has one of the biggest hearts for seniors and it is obvious day in and day out how much she cares for everyone around her, an FSS spokesperson said.
Fayette Senior Services makes it their priority to serve the seniors in our community, no matter how large or small a need may be. By identifying the needs of those they serve or those that reach out for help, FSS helps connect individuals with resources to find solutions.
