Maternal and Child Health

The well-being of mothers and children can help predict future public health challenges for families, communities, and the healthcare system. Objectives of maternal and child health include addressing areas of health behaviors, wellness, quality of life, and disease prevention. House Committee on Health and Human Services

This committee is responsible for
legislation that affects the conditions of safety regulations and social services for the citizens of Georgia. This committee also addresses the legal areas surrounding medical professionals and medicinal provisions.

Senate Committee on Health and Human Services

This committee has general jurisdiction over legislation relating to healthcare and social services. This committee also addresses areas related to the licensing and regulation of healthcare professionals.

Assists hospitals in giving mothers the information, confidence, and skills necessary to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies. Also recognizes hospitals who do the same.

Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs
Leads and supports programs nationally to protect and promote the optimal health of women, children, youth, families, and communities.


Black Mamas Matter Alliance
Advocates for policies that address Black maternal health inequity and improves Black maternal health outcomes, cultivates research, advances care for Black mothers, and amplifies the voices of Black mothers.


Bright Futures
Offers prevention and health promotion for infants, children, adolescents and their families.

Health Resources & Services Administration: Maternal & Child Health Bureau
Provides funding to states, universities and community organizations, designs and runs programs to improve the health of America’s mothers and their families, collects data and conducts research, and supports formal training in maternal and child health concepts.

Leap Frog’s Hospital and Surgery Center Ratings
Collects safety data and reports grades on maternity and child care services at hospitals and medical facilities.

National Women’s Health Network
Shapes policy and monitors actions by federal regulatory and funding agencies, the healthcare industry, and health professions. Also identifies and exposes health care abuses, mobilizing grassroots action for women’s health.


Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays
Supports lesbian and gay individuals and their families. Committed to creating a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are respected, valued, and affirmed.

Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE)
Addresses breastfeeding disparities for communities of color and works to normalize breastfeeding by providing resources and networking opportunities for individuals and communities.


The Bump
Informs first-time millennial parents on fertility, pregnancy, birth, and babies with stage-by-stage content, expert advice, news, and interactive tools.

Assists low-income families with the cost of childcare while they work, go to school/training, or participate in work-related activities.

Georgia Affiliate of American College of Nurse-Midwives
Provides individuals the opportunity to build a professional network and community, enact change in the local and national government, and foster a more healthy and equitable society.


Georgia Breastfeeding Coalition
Works to improve and maintain the health of Georgia’s families by protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding.

Advocates for maternal and child health in Georgia.

Georgia Chapter of Postpartum Support International
Helps those suffering from perinatal mood disorders by promoting awareness, education, prevention, and treatment of mental health issues affecting mothers, their families, and support systems in Georgia.

Offers head start, childcare, and Pre-K programs.


Georgia Department of Public Health
Provides public health services for women and children including comprehensive health exams, testing, education, and access to community resources.

Advocates for women’s health and continuing medical education.


Georgia Perinatal Association
Multi-disciplinary organization of healthcare professionals promoting improved pregnancy and infant outcomes through education and collaboration. Also educates healthcare professionals and enhances collaboration among groups supporting mothers and families in Georgia.


Georgia Perinatal Quality Collaborative
Group of neonatologists, obstetricians, midwives, public health professionals, and other stakeholders working to identify and implement improvement strategies for maternal and infant health.


Georgia Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC)
Provides special checks to buy healthy food from WIC-authorized vendors, information about nutrition and health, support, and information about breastfeeding, and help in finding healthcare and other community services for low-income women.

Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia
Works to improve access to prenatal and preventive healthcare for thousands of women, children, and families in Georgia through direct service, collaborative advocacy, and community education.


La Leche League of Georgia
Provides education, mother-to-mother support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed.


March of Dimes Georgia Chapter
Supports research, leads programs, and provides education and advocacy for maternal and child health.
